Behavioral Goal

“Buoy kelp” provides environmental complexity at the surface of the water. This enrichment promotes environmental exploration, physical activity, and refined motor movement.

Common behaviors observed have been vibrissae contact underneath or on top of the buoy, pushing it around the pool, and/or manipulating with flippers. Pulling kelp with teeth also observed as well as resting within the kelp tendrels.
